Once upon a time, I found a soap mold I loved—but it was made from rigid plastic and was not especially friendly to cold process soap. So, I decided to remake it in silicone.
In this video-based course, I’ll walk you through the process of designing and creating your own silicone soap molds. We’ll begin with the basic tools and materials, then explore several ways to create the positive shapes that become your finished molds.
You’ll learn how to:
- Create plaster positives from existing plastic cavity molds
- Use found objects as moldmaking forms
- Sculpt simple original designs with air-dry clay
- Build mold boxes and forms for pouring silicone
- Work with plaster and prepare smooth, sealed positives
- Calculate, mix, pour, and unmold silicone
- Design and create a reusable silicone impression mat
- Use your finished molds and embeds in cold process soap designs
Because this is Soapy Friends, we won’t stop once the molds are finished. I’ll also share my Double Butter Rhubarb Soap Recipe, featuring Himalayan rhubarb-infused oils, kokum butter, mango butter, and a custom essential oil blend.
Then we’ll put the handmade frog molds to work in the Frog Prince Soap Design, where I demonstrate a simple drop swirl and show how small molded soaps can be used as embeds.
This is a practical, video-heavy course. Much of the teaching happens while you watch the full process unfold—from sculpting and plaster work through pouring silicone, unmolding the finished molds, and finally making soap with them.
