Make Your Own Silicone Soap Molds

In this video-based course, I’ll show you how to transform existing shapes, everyday objects, and your own simple sculptures into flexible silicone molds you can use again and again.

This is a hands-on, process-focused course. You’ll watch each stage of the project unfold, including preparing positives, working with plaster, building mold forms, pouring silicone, unmolding the finished pieces, and using the molds in actual soap designs.

What You’ll Learn

We’ll explore several different ways to create the positive shape used to make a silicone mold.

You’ll learn how to:

• Make plaster positives from existing plastic cavity molds
• Use found objects as mold forms
• Sculpt simple original shapes with air-dry clay
• Mount and prepare objects before pouring silicone
• Build economical mold boxes and pouring forms
• Sand and seal plaster for a smooth finished mold
• Calculate the amount of silicone needed for a project
• Mix, pour, cure, and unmold silicone
• Create reusable cavity molds and embed molds
• Design and make a silicone impression mat

You do not need advanced sculpting experience. The clay work is approachable and focuses on creating simple shapes that can be successfully reproduced in silicone.

From Moldmaking to Soapmaking

Naturally, we have to make some soap with the finished molds!

The course includes my Double Butter Rhubarb Soap Recipe, made with kokum butter, mango butter, Himalayan rhubarb-infused oils, and a custom essential oil blend.

You’ll also watch the handmade frog molds become part of the Frog Prince Soap Design. In this lesson, I demonstrate a simple drop swirl and show how small molded soaps can be added as decorative embeds.

The final project takes the process one step further as we design and create a long silicone impression mat. You’ll see how a textured design can be pressed into clay, converted into a plaster positive, reproduced in silicone, and then used inside a loaf mold to add a raised design to the finished soap.
